My Surprising Encounter with Passionflower
I’ve been on a journey to find plant allies that help me get a good night’s sleep.
Through a process I call intuitive experimentation, I’ve discovered that every herb reacts differently for each person.
One afternoon, I was experimenting with a few plants to see how they would feel in my system. I decided to make a tea and just followed my intuition with what to add.
Passionflower called out to me, so I stirred in a bit.
Within 20 minutes of sipping it, I was out like a light —completely unexpected!
Here is your girl, sawing logs at 2pm on a Thursday afternoon thanks to her new friend, Passionflower.
I’ve heard people talk about how calming Passionflower can be, but I never really thought she would knock me out so fast.
A stark contrast to the time when I tried Valerian, which is a VERY popular herb for sleep. But it had the opposite effect on me—my body reacted by getting more energized instead of relaxed.
That’s just how herbs work sometimes: no single herb will affect everyone the same way. Herbs are not like pharmaceuticals, they take time and they also are more gentle. They are not a quick fix.
When I think about my experience with Passionflower, I realize it’s not only about what the herb can do, but how we build a relationship with it.
In many ways, the plant decided to show me just how potent she could be. And because I had taken the time to listen to my body, I was able to recognize what was happening.
Now, if I feel the need for a deeper rest or want to ensure a solid night’s sleep, I reach for Passionflower without hesitation.
Building this relationship with plants means going beyond reading labels or only relying on popular remedies.
It also involves getting quiet and tuning in to your intuition.
Spend time with the plant: notice its appearance, aroma, and flavour.
Appreciate the unique qualities it brings.
By doing so, you develop a deeper understanding of what it might offer—and, in turn, the plant seems to “call” to you when it can be most helpful.
I’m so grateful to Passionflower for showing me her true power.
When I blend her into my evening tea, I feel a wave of calm come over me, and I know I’ll be comfortably asleep all night.
Waking up refreshed makes me even more thankful for her support, and I acknowledge her role in my wellness.
This kind of gratitude changes the whole dynamic.
You’re not just taking an herb; you’re partnering with it.
Embrace the herbal journey, play a little, get curious, stay open to new discoveries, be committed to learning about your plant allies for your lifetime and remember that there’s never a one-size-fits-all solution.
Each herb carries its own personality, and learning how it interacts with your body is part of the fun.
I hope my experience encourages you to explore herbs with an open mind.
