Quill + Ward Wicked Ritual Tea

A Wicked Ritual Tea for Protection & Boundaries

The Tale of Penelope Porcupine: A Lesson in Protection

Some lessons arrive in the most unexpected ways. For me, it came in the form of a small, injured porcupine on the side of our country road.

She was young, her quills barely grown, and as I slowed my car to a stop, something wasn’t sitting right with me. She kept trying to sit in the middle of the road.

I knew I couldn’t just leave her there, I knew that she risked getting hit by a car coming over the hills.

Carefully, I loaded her up, feeling how absolutely terrified she was that this crazy witch wasn’t heeding her usual boundaries.

So, I continued to talk to her gently and took her to rest in our heated shop while I figured out what to do with her.

Porcupines are so misunderstood.

People think they are aggressive because of their barbed quills. That can’t be further from the truth. They are one of the sweetest and most gentle creatures we have around here.

They don’t throw their quills. They avoid a fight at all costs. If someone or something doesn’t respect the boundary and lurches at them, the quills simply release from the porcupine and poke into the aggressors skin.  Hopefully warding off any more attacks.

As I sat outside of the dog crate on our floor, I spoke softly to her and she began to fall asleep as I connected with a wildlife rescue in our area.

I was in a place of pure joy with this experience, I was slightly floating from the joy of the experience with this sweet little girl, I named Penelope.

Later that day, I found myself receiving waves of bad news, one thing after another, each one chipping away at my good vibes.

Then, I was reminded that Penelope was out on my path in such a profound way. She was a sign and reminder, preparing me for the storm ahead.

Porcupine medicine isn’t about aggression; it’s about protection through presence.

They carry their armor with them - not to attack, but to deter.

They remind us that boundaries don’t have to be harsh to be effective.

You can be gentle and kind and still hold firm, just as Penelope did, balled up with her back to me, but trusting in the hands that carried her.

I dedicate Quill + Ward to her. This tea is a reminder that protection doesn’t require walls, just clear, unwavering energy.

It’s about holding space for yourself, shielding without shutting down, and reinforcing your inner strength without hardening your heart.

Now, I feel like I’ve done what recipe bloggers do, but I hope it was deeper then that for you… here’s the ritual I’ve prepared for you when you use this specialty blended tea blend.

The Ritual: A Sacred Shield of Protection

Purpose:

This ritual is designed to fortify your energetic boundaries, create a sense of safety, and remind you that you can stand strong without becoming rigid.

1. Preparation: Setting  Up Your Space

Brew a cup of Quill + Ward, allowing its protective herbs to infuse the water with their strength.

Light a white or black candle, symbolizing clarity and protection.

Gather a protective talisman (a crystal like black tourmaline, an iron nail, or even a small porcupine quill if you have one).

If you have rosemary, place a sprig near your cup - it has long been used to fortify the spirit.

2. Invocation: Declaring Your Intent

Hold your cup in both hands and speak:

“I call upon the strength of the gentle guardian, the one who stands firm yet soft. May my energy be shielded, my heart be safe, and my boundaries be honored. As I sip this tea, I weave my protection a not in fear, but in love.”

3. The Ritual: Drinking in Strength

Take slow sips of Quill + Ward, feeling the way the herbs work together:

Tulsi wraps around you like a spiritual shield, bringing a sense of divine protection.

Rosemary strengthens your energetic boundaries, making them clear and unshakable.

Peppermint sharpens your awareness, helping you see what energy belongs to you and what doesn’t.

Licorice Root reminds you that protection can also be sweet - your strength can be kind, your firmness can be warm.

As you sip, visualize yourself surrounded by a soft yet unbreakable light, like the invisible quills of an energetic porcupine. It doesn’t harm, but it protects. Let this boundary form naturally, without effort or force.

4. Closing: Sealing the Energy

Hold your talisman or place your hands over your heart and say:

“I am safe. I am strong. I do not need to harden to be protected. My energy is mine to hold, and I honor it.”

Blow out the candle, letting the smoke carry your intention into the world.

Affirmations for Boundaries & Protection

I am safe in my own energy.

I do not have to explain or defend my boundaries.

I protect my peace with grace and certainty.

I can be soft and still hold strong boundaries.

I honor my own space and allow only what serves me.

Porcupines teach us that true protection isn’t about closing ourselves off… it’s about standing firm in who we are, unafraid to take up space.

Quill + Ward carries that same energy, a gentle but unwavering reminder that you can be both kind and strong, open-hearted and well-guarded.

Sip, shield, and stay sweet.
